Steve Anderson

Operations, Marketing, and Branding

Greetings

My name is Steve Anderson. I live in Northern Utah. I'm a husband and father of two children. I'm interested in building companies. I'm especially interested in branding and digital marketing.

When I'm not parenting or working, I'm a volunteer ski patroller.

Kyrgies

I'm probably best known for being a co-founder of Kyrgies. Kyrgies is a lifestyle slipper brand that works directly with a very cool factory in Kyrgyzstan. I developed the Kyrgies brand from scratch and managed all aspects of marketing the company for seven years.

We've sold a whole lot slippers. We developed a fervent customer base. It's a social-impact brand wrapped in warm and fuzzy wool felt.

Perhaps most importantly, our partner factory in Kyrgyzstan was able to hire somewhere around 100 people to meet the demand that we created for their slippers in the United States. Visiting Kyrgyzstan and interacting with these people was easily the highlight of the entire experience.

The American Scholar

Before Kyrgies, I worked in print publishing. Or rather, I worked in bringing print publishing to the digital world. This is where I cut my teeth in things like: online content management, traditional direct mail campaigns, and all things digital marketing.

The American Scholar is a general-interest magazine that is printed quarterly. It is published by The Phi Beta Kappa Society. I promise, it's not as stuffy as it sounds

Perhaps most importantly, my time at The American Scholar reintroduced me to books as an adult. It was amazing to work alongside a staff of people that are actively reading and are dedicated to the world of ideas. I don't read as much as I did when I was commuting by train 2.5 hours a day to the Scholar office, but I do still read. If you're hanging with me and looking for a conversation starter, this is a good one.

Found and Gathered

Speaking of reading, I made a commonplace book website called Found Gathered. It's one of many side projects I've built over the years. I haven't updated it lately, but it still exists. It was a just a fun project. A way for me to practice some web development, some graphic design, and collecting some quotes.

If you're not sure what a commonplace book is, it's a collection of quotes from books you've read. It used to be something that was very common to keep. This is back in the day when being able to read well was a big deal and there was a general consensus that books contained wisdom.

Other Projects

I've been involved with a few other things over the past 15 years. Some of them were even vaguely successful. The gist of these projects involved brand building, graphic design, and front-end web development.

Where I Shine

I can wear a lot of hats and I like to take care of things myself. Before we run to hire someone, let's do some reasearch and see what's actually involved. I've learned a tremendous amount from simply bringing this attitude with me in whatever project I'm working on.

Brand Building

The brand is the heart and soul of your project. Authentic branding shows through.

Social Impact

I've been so fortunate in my career to be able to work on projects with a positive social impact. I strive to continue to find these kinds of opportunities.

Operations

I shine brightest while working in cross-functional roles and making the most out of limited resources.

Digital Ads

I've spent a lot of time and money on meta and google ads. I've learned a few things over these years.

Digital Sales Funnel

They say that email marketing is dead, I don't believe that for a moment. But I belive in SMS marketing as well.

Graphic Design

Let's make things look professional.
